Sporting*Goods: Calvin Johnson Retires & Blake Griffin Injures Hand In Petty Fight

Its official, the Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers have another challenger in the tank job for Ben Simmons. After a slew of injuries and poor play the Phoenix Suns have entered the fray by firing their head coach Jeff Hornacek. In a relatively quick stint in the desert Hornacek went through the whole life cycle of a NBA head coach.

In his first season with the Suns the team exceeded expectations going 48-34 while playing small and fast, a strategy that teams like the Golden State Warriors have taken to another level since then. The following season Suns management let their coach down in a slew of garbage moves including dealing away big contributors Goran Dragic and Isaiah Thomas and not getting back much in return. As a result Hornacek’s team suffered, going 53-78 over the next year and a half.

Moving forward the Suns will look to lose as much as possible and develop young talent like Devin Booker, Archie Goodwin, and TJ Warren. As for Hornacek, he should not have to wait long to land another job, teams like the Washington Wizards, Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, and Brooklyn Nets should all be interested in his services.
