Charlie Sheen revealed he is HIV-positive during a TODAY show exclusive to end a smear campaign and blackmail.

“I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, threatening the health of so many others that couldn’t be further from the truth”

Sheen said he revealed the diagnosis to people he thought he could trust, but has paid upwards of $10 million to keep it a secret. He said appearing on TODAY will help put a stop to the payouts.

“What people forget is that that’s money they’re taking from my children.”

The actor said he had known about the diagnosis for about four years and initially thought that he had a brain tumor. “It is a hard three letters to absorb,” he said. He said he did not know how he contracted the disease.

“I was doing a lot of drugs,” he said. “I was drinking way too much. I was making a lot of bad decisions.”

The actor said that he did not think it was possible that he had transmitted the disease to others, adding that he said that he had unprotected sex with two people, but that he was under the care of doctors at the time. He also added that he has revealed diagnosis to every one of his sex partners.
