Less than a week after the music streaming platform’s celebration concert, Jay Z‘s Tidal now has a dedicated concert space at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Cushman & Wakefield Theater, which been hosting concerts at the center for the last three years was renamed today, and will now be known as the Tidal Theatre. According to Brett Yormark, the Barclays Center CEO, the partnership with Tidal is a “content deal” that will allow Tidal to put on “a minimum of eight events into the theater annually.” He added that these events will be complemented by other events, suggesting that Tidal artists won’t be the only one’s performing at the theatre.
Billboard reports that “the deal is unique in that it is believed to be the first time a digital content company has come in as a sponsor for a live performance venue.” Yormark says:
“As evidenced by [Tidal X: 1020] the other night, Tidal, when they want to, can put on some big time events, and we anticipate having quite a few here at Barclays Center. It’s just another strategic alliance that I think helps to advance the content business here at Barclays Center, and we’re very excited about it.”
The Tidal Theatre can seat between 4,000 and 6,000 guests for theatrical performances, concerts, music festivals, boxing events, comedy acts, and other events, depending on the space’s configuration.
