Following his 2011 LP Follow Me Home, Los Angeles rapper, Jay Rock, sat down for an exclusive listening session at Sonos Studios, where he debuted a number of tracks off of his upcoming record 90059. Hosted by LA radio personality Letty, the evening also included an intimate question and answer portion. Those in attendance relaxed in the dimly lit lounge styled studio on plush, white bean bag chairs while the Parental Advisory artist spoke openly about his latest project.
Inspired by his hometown, Jay Rock referenced the Watts, California zip code (90059) as the title for his sophomore effort. As reported, the album will feature other artists such as Kendrick Lamar, who made a surprise appearance at last night’s listening.
In addition, Vince Staples is also rumored to make an appearance. Aside from Jay Rock’s “Gumbo” track, the album was listened to in it’s entirety. Although it’s not set in stone whether the track will make it onto the album or not, fans certainly have a lot to look forward to once the record does drop. As of right now, no release date has been mentioned, but we can pretty much guarantee that when it does debut, it’s going to be unexpected. After all, the best artists love the rush of a surprise release, as do the fans.
