Miley Cyrus is officially set to host this year’s Video Music Awards on August 30th, but that doesn’t mean everyone is happy about it. The former Hannah Montana star who initially won over parent’s with her clean cut Disney demeanor is now the cause of their future stress. According to the Parents Television Counsel, this year’s award show will “not be safe for children to watch.”
Foreshadowing a heavily explicit show, the network will most likely be slapping the annual airing with a TV-MA rating, as mentioned by the President of the Counsel, Tim Winter.
“With Miley’s shtick, it’s probably going to be very edgy, very profane, very sexually explicit…[Miley has been] dropping F-bombs in her announcement on social media.“I think it’s unfortunate she built her entire career on the backs of parents and now she’s basically giving them the middle finger.”
Although Miley has proven to be quite, hm, controversial these days, her hosting the VMA’s should not be a major cause for alarm. After all, the show is genuinely stamped with a TV 14 rating, so viewers should already have a bit of an idea of what they’re in for. Besides, the MTV video music awards were never devised with the idea in mind that it would adhere to the ‘family friendly’ notion.
