D.R.A.M., Dougie F, and Donmonique Shut Down Hot 97’s ‘Who’s Next’

NEW YORK, NY—On the warm summer night of July 22, 2015 a large line began to form down Varick St alongside SOB’s as everyone waited with anticipation to hear what some of the rising faces of hip-hop had to offer. Hot 97 started their “Who’s Next” series to expose true hip-hop fans to new and upcoming artists on their way to the top. Last night’s roster included Beyonce‘s New Favorite D.R.A.M., Jersey’s Rising Star Dougie F, and Brooklyn Dopest Young Female MC Donmonique. The showcase was one to remember, so luckily for you we’re running it down set by set.

The night started off with a bang as Brooklyn’s Donmonique took the stage at 9:30 PM with braids so clean that A$AP Rocky would be jealous. Her swag, energy and most importantly BARS proved to everyone in the building that the 20-year-old MC didn’t come to play games. The Don got right into it getting the crowd hype with new track “Jada” off her recently dropped debut EP ‘Thirst Trap’. As the energy continued to rise, Donmonique was joined by Slayter who helped her KILL the Stelios Phili produced banger, ‘Tha Low’. Next, Donmonique had some words for the no good men out there in her anthem ‘ION’ and trust me she made her point loud and clear, “ION f*ck with yall n**gas”. Lastly, she ended her set with… you guessed it, club-banger ‘Pilates’.

Next up was Jersey’s very own, Dougie F who rolled up on stage at 10:30 PM greeted by a crowd full of hype Jersey fans that could not wait to see him and to their surprise he performed new tracks off of his mixtape “Block Party” that was released today.  His performances of ‘Insomnia’, ‘Dope’, ‘Under Control’, ‘Pre-Paid’, and ‘Touchdown’ had the crowd beyond lit, even inciting a mosh pit near the stage. As water began flying all over the place, Dougie F decided to take the energy one step further performing a snippet of his hit single ‘Back Up On It’. Dougie F completely owned the stage and definitely made us Jersey heads very proud and excited for “Block Party”!

As if the show wasn’t already hype enough, out comes the final act at 11:00 PM, Virginia’s own D.R.A.M. who came on stage with three things: vocals, weed and his awesome dreads. Fun Fact, not only does D.R.A.M. sing but he also raps and produces! He started off his set with an impressive showcase of his vocals in ‘Goldens’, accompanied with soulful rifts and surprisingly melodic ad libs. While on the smooth and soulful tip, D.R.A.M followed up with killer performances of ‘Mind Gone’ and a special rendition of Donnie Trumpet and The Social Experiment‘s ‘Caretaker’ that would make any girl’s heart melt. Next, D.R.A.M. was accompanied by Sunny and Gabe to perform ‘I Luv It’, the perfect trio of voices coming together and while the gang was all there you know D.R.A.M had to turn it up closing his set with Beyonce-approved hit ‘Cha Cha’.
