Today (June 22), President Barack Obama used the N-word in an interview on the WTF Podcast. The unexpected language dropped amid the discussion that a lot of progress has been made when it comes to eliminating racism, but there is still a lot of work that has to be done.
“Racism, we are not cured of it,” said Obama. “And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say n—-r in public. That’s not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It’s not just a matter of overt discrimination. Societies don’t, overnight, completely erase everything that happened 200 to 300 years prior.”
The conversation regarding race was sparked by the Caucasian shooter who open fired and killed nine African-Americans at a church on Wednesday (June 17) in Charlestown, South Carolina. It was eventually revealed that the shooter carried out the crime with hopes of starting a “race war.”
