The unintentional comedy of Lance Stephenson is back  in the limelight after a brief hiatus in Charlotte. The Los Angeles Clippers have traded for the troubled Charlotte Hornets shooting guard, sending Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes in exchange according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

So what does this trade mean other than some potential for an awesome meltdown? The Clippers are hoping they can get the Lance Stephenson that helped the Indiana Pacers reach the Eastern Conference Finals and not the guy who got benched in favor of Gerald Henderson.

Given the fact that the Clippers are a veteran-heavy team much like that Pacers team the roll of the dice is well worth the risk especially when all they really gave up was a failed signing in Hawes (I expect Barnes to be bought out and back with the Clippers by the end of the month). If Stephenson can get his head right and Chris Paul can take him under his wing then Doc Rivers might have finally made a decent trade for his team. If this blows up in Rivers’ face then the Clippers have their own Nick Young. Either way we are all happy to have Lance back on a relevant team.
