There is nothing better in sports than when a game lives up to the impossible hype. When two games do that you’re in sports euphoria. Well that’s where we stand today ladies and gentlemen. Both the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Finals have one game in the books and one classic in the books as well. I wasn’t really worried about hockey, those playoffs have been must see TV for a couple weeks, but the NBA Finals was a different story.
All those worries of one team getting blown out went to the wayside when the first half buzzer sounded and J.R. Smith hit an insane buzzer beater to give the Cavs a 51-48 lead. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving (I pray he’s only out until Game 3) masterful and Timofey Mozgov was surprisingly dominant. All of that wasn’t enough as Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson got going eventually and Andre Iguodola came out of nowhere to win a classic first game.
Sorry for the tangent, but Game 1 was that good. Aside from the NBA we were introduced to another young phenom on the diamond. The debut of one Joey Gallo makes him the fourth rookie to burst onto the MLB scene in the past two months (Noah Syndergaard, Joc Pederson and Kris Bryant the others). So without any further tangents or over analysis let’s see WTF Happened In Sports This Week.
