It looks like there’s a new kid on the block that’ll be be giving the hip hop industry a run for its money. Going by his stage name Post Malone, this 19 year old southerner seems to have become an overnight sensation. Just a little over a year ago, this young musician took a huge gamble, dropping everything to move out to Los Angeles, California to pursue his music career.
Making music has always been a passion of his. In his first radio interview ever, Post Malone talks about playing his material for friends during lunch in high school. His friends, who quickly gravitated towards his raps, began playing his music at parties.
Once he moved out to California, Post Malone immediately got in the studio to start making some professional recordings. It was there that he bonded with musician FKI, a major component to skyrocketing his career.
In fact, Post Malone just recently played his first show ever on April 30th, in New York City, surprising the crowd with an unreleased song titled ’40 funk.’
Post Malone mainly draws inspiration from rappers such as Biggie, but also reflects on the musical aspects associated with the southern culture he was raised in. So yes, this modern hip hop artist is inspired by country music—mainly the classics like Hank Williams Sr. and Johnny Cash.
Many know him best for his hit record “White Iverson,” racking up over 3 million hits on Sound Cloud since its release just a few months ago. Although he’s currently only released a total of five songs, it’s pretty safe to say this guy is going to be around for a while.
