Sunday (May 10), Prince put on a special concert called “Rally 4 Peace” effort at The Royal Farms, in Baltimore. This was in result of the recent events occurring in Baltimore surrounding the Freddie Gray incident.
The concert comes just after the artist released his latest single, “Baltimore,” which he debut that evening.. The show, which latest about two and a half hours, was announced just a week prior.
Besides playing his own hits like “Purple Rain,” Prince was also joined by all eleven members of his band, 3RDEYEGIRL. The singer also invited Marilyn Mosby, the state attorney of Baltimore City to join him on stage during “Baltimore.” While she didn’t contribute musically to his performance, the fact she was there resulted in applause.
Something nearly as impressive as his performance was the crowd who attended. The mother of Mike Brown was seen with Tina Knowles, Beyoncé and Alicia Keys. Estelle even made a small appearance along with family members of Freddie Gray and Eric Garner.
Jay Z’s streaming service, TIDAL set up an opportunity to donate to the Baltimore Justice Fund , who’s mission is said to :improve police accountability and increase racial justice.” In addition to that, the concert was made available for free on TIDAL, as well. Meaning viewers didn’t have to subscribe to enjoy the performance.
