Prince‘s concert in Baltimore on Sunday (May 9) attracted a lot of big names, including Beyonce, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Tina Knowles, who did more than just attend the two-and-a-half-hour concert, which was streamed (for free) on TIDAL. In wake of 25-year-old Freddie Gray‘s recent death in Baltimore, they visited his family as well as Lesley McFadden, the mother of Mike Brown who was shot and killed by police when he was 18 years old.
Jay Z has also recently reached out to Baltimore anti-violence advocate and activist Carmichael “Stokey” Cannady to show support amid the incessant rioting that took play after Freddy Gray’s funeral.
“There’s some black people in America that understand what we go through in Baltimore on a daily basis, dealing with racial profiling and having very aggressive, disrespectful police. I got a phone call, and it’s so surreal, we did a protest Thursday and as I was getting up to get ready I got a call from Jay Z,” he shared. “He was like, ‘Bro, anything I can do I’ma do.’”
