The sports cycle, like any other cycle, has its stages. This past week was the “boom” stage, one where everything is operating at its highest efficiency. Every major sport had a noteworthy event going on or making headlines off the field. Let me put it this way—Stephen Curry winning MVP would be the top moment any other week. It’s not even the top five. What about Alex Rodriguez tying Willie Mays on the all-time home run list by hitting a game winner in Boston? Nope. What about Andrew Wiggins taking home Rookie of the Year? Not this week. Kentucky Derby? HA!

This past Saturday (May 2nd) was the “boom” stage’s apex with twelve legitimate hours of non-stop action kicking off with the final rounds of the NFL Draft kicking it off and Mayweather-Pacquiao as the nightcap. In between there was Yankees-Red Sox, Rangers-Capitals Game 2, the Kentucky Derby and Clippers-Spurs Game 7.  So let’s say goodbye to the apex and recap what the hell went on during that loaded Saturday and during the week in this edition of Sporting*Goods.
