Tu Pimp A Caterpillar. That was what the original name of Kendrick Lamar‘s sophomore album before changing it to To Pimp A Butterfly. In an ode to the West Coast legend Tupac, who can be heard on the final track of the album, “Mortal Man“, it is very clear who served as K. Dot’s inspiration.

Lamar on the original title:

“That was the original point when I got the (TuPac) interview, that was the original idea,” he said. “And me changing it to butterfly is me really wanting to show the brightness of life and pimp had so much aggression. For me it represents several things. It represent using my celebrity for good. Another is me not being pimp by the industry.”
