Timbaland may have gotten the push he needed to fully go forward with his latest protégé, Tink. This comes after the producer admits at the Fader Fort at SXSW that Aaliyah came to him in his dreams saying “She’s the one.”
After Timbaland performed a few of his own hits like LL Cool J’s “Headspung, Justin Timberlake and Jay Z’s “Holy Grail”, along with some newer material, Tink got on stage and performed an adaption of Aaliyah’s “One In A Million.”
After the 19 year old singer performed, Timbaland took the stage to make his announcement. “I don’t touch any of my sister’s records. I don’t touch Baby Girl’s records—you know that’s Aaliyah. She spoke to me in my sleep and said, ‘She’s the one.’”
This isn’t the first time Timbaland has spoken so highly of Tink. Back in his November interview with The BreakfastClub, he mentioned that Tink’s upcoming album is one of the best he has worked on since Aaliyah’s One In A Million. He may be right—after all Tink already has songs with Andre 3000 and Jay Z but is he taking it a bit far with comparing her to ‘Baby Girl’?
