Last week Kendrick Lamar announced the March 23 release date for his highly-anticipated sophomore album. Tonight (March 10) the TDE rapper took to Instagram to post his the cover of his sophomore album, To Pimp A Butterfly. His Instagram caption read:
“Don’t all dogs go to heaven? Don’t Gangsta’s boogie? Do owl shit stank? Lions, Tigers & Bears. But TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY. Its the American dream nigga….” – lil Homie.
The black-and-white album art shows Kendrick and a bunch of his friends, including TDE member, mobbing in front of the White House with stacks in hand while a judge lies on the ground beneath them with his eyes X’d out.
Kendrick is always symbolic, so of course there is already speculation about the meaning behind the cover and the title. Is butterfly an analogy for America? Is that Kendrick in the middle holding a baby? No one knows for sure, but what’s certain is the album will drop in two weeks, and feature 16 tracks including “The Blacker the Berry.”
