Empire Soundtrack Debuts at No. 1 On Billboard 200 Chart

FOX’s new hit show Empire has taken the U.S. by storm glueing millions of people to their seats every Wednesday night to see the new drama. Additionally, the musical cast of Empire was also working on a soundtrack to accompany the show… which just beat out Madonna‘s Rebel Heart on the Billboard 200 Chart.

The Empire soundtrack released on March 10 through Columbia Records and earned 130,000 album units in the week ending March 15. It is the first TV soundtrack to debut at No. 1 since 2010, Glee topped the charts with three different albums.

Madonna’s Rebel Heart, which was also released on March 10, debuted at the No. 2 spot with 121,000 units.

The Empire soundtrack features rising star Jussie Smollett, as well as established artists such as Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Estelle, Rita Ora, Juicy J and Courtney Love.

Although Madonna lost the top spot, she has admitted that she is a fan of Empire and wants Terrance Howard to star in her upcoming music video for “Ghosttown”.
