While making his way through New Zealand and Australia, Drake had an emotional moment during his first show at the Allphones Arena in Sydney (Feb. 25).
Drake shared the struggles he endured before fame, like playing for shows that paid under $500 and growing up in his mom’s basement writing songs. He referred to the night as “a night [he’ll] remember for the rest of [his] f***ing life.”
“I just wanna tell you: for me to be out in Sydney, Australia and see you guys come out of pocket, spend your money to come see me talk shit on stage […] I go a lot places, I see a lot of faces, but this is a night that I’ll remember for the rest of my fucking life, thank you.”
He continued by thanking his fans for attending his concert before starting the chorus to “Legend.”
“They could either try and crown me, or they can try and kill me. But the one thing I’ll remember about tonight [starts singing]: Oh my God, Oh my God…”
