There are three things I’ve always accepted as “never going to happen;” Dr. Dre releasing Detox, the New York Knicks winning a championship, and Floyd Mayweather fighting Manny Pacquiao. Today (Feb.20) one of those things changed. The fight of the century has finally been announced; Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2nd. Save the date and mark you calendars.

Mayweather announced news of the fight on his Shots page by posting a picture of the signed contract with the caption:

“Mayweather vs. Pacuiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal. I promised the fans we would get this done and we did.”

News of the fight should awaken boxing fans who have been hibernating for decades, and bring back fight fans who moved onto MMA. While I wanted this fight to happen five years ago—a sentiment that majority of the public shares—now that it’s official, I can feel myself getting hyped up about it.

Pacquiao also took to his instagram to announce the fight…so you know it’s real.

In the coming weeks we’ll find out what ended the stalemate between the two fighters that had kept this from happening for years. For now let’s celebrate. Boxing is finally back to relevancy, let’s see how long it lasts.
