Common and John Legend Move Crowd To Their Feet With Powerful “Glory” Performance

The 87th Academy Awards had a culmination of different performance ranging from Lady Gaga, Rita Ora, and of course Common and John Legend. From the movie Selma’s soundtrack, they performed the lead single “Glory” moving people in the audience as well as at home to tears. Common’s poignant and factual lyrics, accompanied by John Legend’s soulful voice and a group of choir singers truly took us to church last night. Relive the experience by watching above.

Additionally, right after this performance Common and John Legend took home the Oscar for Best Original Song. In their acceptance speech they voiced how the civil rights movement and fight for justice is universal and nowhere near over. John Legend also spit some facts about the state of Black men and the United States Prison system.

“We live in the most incarcerated country in the world. There are more black men under correctional control today then were under slavery in 1850.”
