Kanye West does it again, well almost.
Videos from the Grammys surfaced last night revisiting one of the most talked about events of the night. Jay Z and Beyoncé are seen in disbelief for what they thought would happen next, but when Kanye waved himself off and exited the stage the two laughed out loud with the look of relief. We’re not so sure the world was ready to hear, “Beck, I’m gonna let you finish but…”
We all remember the infamous moment when Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech after winning the “Best Female Video” award against Beyonce’s “Run the World (Girls)” video back in 2009 at the MTV VMA’s. Although he did not go through with it (this time), Ye’ made his way to the stage, when alternative rock musician, Beck won the Best Album of the year award, beating stars like Beyoncé and Sam Smith, who took home four top awards.
If you don’t know who Beck is, he is an American musician, who became famous for his alternative rock and indie sound in the early 90’s. With only probably a few feet from each other, Kanye started to make his way off the stage, while Beck gestured for him to come back in stay. It’s probably best that Kanye didn’t, because his words probably wouldn’t have been too nice. The crowd roared with laughter, thinking Kanye was making light fun of himself. Too bad, he actually wasn’t.
During the Grammy’s After Party, Kanye spoke out about his stage crash. In a interview with a few E! correspondents, Kanye raged:
“I don’t know what he said, all I know is if the Grammys want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more. Flawless, Beyoncé video. Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it.”
When asked by Us Weekly about his thoughts on whether Bey should have taken home the award, Beck responded, “Absolutely. I thought she was going to win. Come on, she’s Beyoncé!”
I guess the idea that Kanye changed was highly short-lived. As many are saying, “Kanye pulled a Kanye,” and for that no one is surprised. However, the 44-year-old “Turn Away” singer was actually happy about the near-interuptance by Ye’.
“I was just so excited he was coming up. He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody. How many great records has he put out in the last five years right?”
Kanye is receiving major backlash for this one, because of the simple fact Beck is a big time artist, who made his claim to fame in the early 90’s with his experimental style and collages of different genres.
“You can’t please everybody, man,” said Beck of the 37 year-old rapper. “I still love him and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”
