The name Joey Bada$$ might not just be for show. On Friday night during a stop on his Australian tour, Bada$$ was arrested for allegedly punching a security guard in the face.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Brooklyn rapper was getting ready to hit the stage when he was approached by the guard around 8:30 p.m, who thought Bada$$ was an unauthorized person. According to police, Bada$$ punched the security guard in the face, ultimately breaking his nose and sending him to the hospital.
After his set, Joey was arrested and spent the night in custody. He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and appeared in Lismore Local Court the following day. The rapper has since been released on bail, and is expected to face the courts again on March 19.
The rapper’s camp has released the following statement:
“Joey can confirm that there was a misunderstanding with security at the Byron Falls Festival show, which resulted in charges being laid by NSW Police. After fully cooperating with Police, Joey was granted bail and entered a plea of not guilty to the charge.”
Joey Bada$$ has a week left in Australia before ending his tour and celebrating the release of his debut studio album B4.DA.$$ on Jan. 20.
