The Boston Tank Party: Celtics Trade Brandan Wright To Suns & Finalizing Deal For Jeff Green To Grizzlies

Jeff Green

The Boston Celtics see your fire sale and raise you one, New York Knicks. Following the Rondo trade and the Knicks’ fire sale, Celtics GM Danny Ainge seems to either be lowering his asking prices or the trade market is finally opening. Ainge had been trying to deal Rondo and Jeff Green for at least a year, but wasn’t satisfied with the offers.  Brandan Wright, who came over in that Rondo trade, barely had a cup of coffee as a Celtic, but I’m sure he won’t complain about leaving the Boston winter for his new team.

With Brandan Wright the Suns now have that athletic big man they have been looking for.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski the Celtics have finalized a deal with the Phoenix Suns that sends Wright to Phoenix and a protected first-round pick to the Celtics. For the Suns it gives them another big man the team desperately needed. Wright is an athletic forward that can play center or power forward and will fit perfectly with the Suns’ high-octane attack spearheaded by guards Eric Bledsoe, Goran Dragic and Isaiah Thomas as they continue their playoff push. For the Celtics it gives them yet another draft pick as they continue to rack up.

As for Green, it looks like all but a done deal that he ends up with the Memphis Grizzlies for Tayshaun Prince and a first-round pick. Green leaves a bottom-dweller Celtics team and jumps right to the top of the Western Conference. The Grizzlies now have a legit scoring threat at small forward for the first time since trading Rudy Gay. The Celtics get an expiring contract and an eleventh first-round draft pick over the next four years. Much like the Knicks fire sale earlier this week, the Celtics only want to compete for pong balls and Jahlil Okafor. Looks like everyone wins.
