Twitter Reacts To Mariah Carey's Struggle Performance In NYC

Mariah Carey is known for her five-octave voice and her ability to hit the notes a lot of singers wish they could. However, her latest performance in New York had us wishing she did not attempt to do either.

When she took the stage last night to sing “All I Want For Christmas Is You” during the 82nd annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Carey seemed off. Because of her history with being late, NBC initially decided to tape Carey singing the song in front of live audience Tuesday night and then air it Wednesday for the network’s coverage of the ceremony. But Carey kept the audience waiting for three hours, and NBC decided to cancel the performance. According to TMZ, Carey was late because she was meeting with her lawyer about her divorce settlement with Nick Cannon. She apologized via Twitter, and NBC had a change of heart, allowing Carey to perform a pitchy rendition of the classic live on Wednesday night.

It was not a complete mess, but Carey struggled with some of her most familiar notes. The aired performance, however, pales in comparison to the video below, which features her isolated, unedited vocals. To sum it up, it’s straight up bad.

And fans let her have it.

Still, some fans rallied to support her.

At the end of the day, Mariah Carey is still arguably one of the best vocalists to ever do it, and she has paid her dues. She’s only human.
