Iggy Azalea has managed to woo thousands with her unique sound, performance presence, and her undeniable coke bottle figure. It is no secret that she has been many fellas’ WCW’s (besides Swaggy P of course). However, on this Throwback Thursday we revisit the Australian Hip-Hop superstar’s humble beginnings with her debut EP, Glory in 2012. She took some time to talk to GoodFellaMedia in Los Angeles, CA in August of 2012 to introduce us to her the concept behind her first single and music video “Murda Bizness”.
When considering the title, “Murda Bizness” and then hearing the trap bass line mixed with her unique rap style, one would envision a very different music video then the one that was actually created.
Toddlers & Tiaras…? We definitely needed the 411 to explain this one.
Iggy takes full responsibility for the creative direction of the music video stating, “It was all my idea. T.I told me, “What the hell are you doing? I hate it.”” Yet she reassured him that he would understand the correlation if he grasped her view of the lyrics. She did not intend for the lyrics of “Murda Bizness” to be taken so literally. Instead, Iggy had another focus:
“Being the flyest, illest b**** and killing s***”
Besides Ms. Azalea having a little potty mouth, she utilized her love for TLC shows like Toddlers & Tiaras and explained the interesting parallel she saw between child pageants and pageant moms to the rap game.
“Their costumes, diamonds, tiaras, and all the glamour of it all, it just reminds me of — the glitz — it reminds me of Bling. It’s the same f*cking sh*t. Toddlers & Tiaras actually has a lot more in common with rappers and flashy shit (than you think).”
Iggy Azalea picked up two monumental awards at this past weekend’s American Music Awards : Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album , beating out Drake and Eminem in both categories. Iggy is still in the Murda Bizness, and she does not plan on leaving any time soon.
