It's Bobby, Bitch – Wait, Is Bobby Shmurda Here To Stay?

via rap-up.com

They hated and they doubted.

Bobby Shmurda‘s “Hot Nigga” is sitting in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 as we speak. The “Shmoney Dance” is now worldwide and the kid you thought was merely an Internet meme has one of the hottest songs of the year. With a deal off of one song, many thought that he would succumb to “one hit wonderism.” His style of music isn’t what you’ve been getting from hip hop’s front runners in recent time. His hit single doesn’t even have a hook and feels like a novelty more than anything. His success can be attributed to a catchy dance move more so than the traditional reasons for singles charting as high as it did.

He manifested “Hot Nigga” into a deal and it was quiet on the music side for a while. Then he started teasing his “Bobby Bitch” single on YouTube. Intriguing in its sound, we weren’t sure what was about to happen. It was released to a “less than Hot Nigga” response.

Then I watched this video. Is Bobby Shmurda the new Shabba Ranks? At the 15 second mark he hits this move that is sure to be GIFfed and memed even quicker than the hat toss and Shmoney Dance in “Hot Nigga.” Holy shit. Did you see 2:05? Tell that bitch I want some head too.

If Bobby Shmurda’s “Bobby Bitch” does well he will have already exceeded expectations. Everything after that is a bonus in what is sure to be one of the greatest stories of the decade. In a time where the only other hip hop songs to chart in the top 10 of the Hot 100 were by Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj, Shmurda cracked the code by simply doing him.

We’ve seen this story before and it can go two ways.

Soulja Boy popped the YouTube era off when “Crank Dat‘ went viral, and then number one. He turned his Superman into more hits and lucrative deals and is still treading waters as a cast member on VH1’s Love and Hip Hop.

Then more recently we have Chief Keef who rose from the depths of Chicago, or Chiraq, and put Drill Music on the map. While he was slated to be the next big thing, his negligence got him dropped from his record label with no other prospects.

It may be too early to tell, but let’s see where this goes from here.

Until then, I leave you with this…
