Stalley Talks Rick Ross, Atlantic Granting Him “Full Control” Over ‘Ohio’ & De La Soul Collab

Kymmi Cee sat down with Stalley in the “Space Ship” for a few words before his “Ohio” listening party. After clarifying whether he actually calls Rick Ross by his production name, “Mastermind,” or “Rozay”  he expressed his gratitude for Ross and Dallas Martin of Atlantic for allowing him to Executive Producing & A&Ring his first album, “Ohio,” available for pre-order on iTunes now.

“It was executive produced by me and him (Rick Ross). Also, I A&R’ed with Dallas Martin who is the A&R over at atlantic. It’s just been a blessing you know to have full control. Like, I really sat in the studio and digged through beat after beat.”

Stalley furthered the discussion by explaining why a mutual respect for one another made the collaboration with De La Soul come together so organically. He also added that he recorded with intentions to introduce the legendary group to a newer generation of listeners.

“I reached out to them. They’re legends. They were fans. They listened to the music. They were like, ‘I would be honored.’ We made an incredible track.  I want the youth and kids who might have not known who De La Soul was, or listened to Del La Soul—I want them to hear that these dudes 20-30 years later are still neck and neck with some of the best MC’s in the game.”
