100 Million Dollar Man: Houston Texans Ink Star DE J.J. Watt to Extension

JJ Watt

It’s good to be a premiere defender in the NFL these days. First we saw Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson sign for a defensive back record $70 million with $48 million guaranteed. Today we saw Watt sign a defensive player record $100 million contract for six years with a whopping $51.9 million guaranteed. To say Watt deserves such an extension would be a huge understatement.

Since being drafted eleventh overall  by the Houston Texans in 2011 Watt has been an unstoppable force. In just three years Watt has accumulated 36.5 sacks. To make the Texans feel even better about their decision, Watt has 31 of those sacks in the past two seasons and it gets even better. With number-one-overall pick Jadeveon Clowney lining up on the other side of Watt expect those sack numbers to get even higher. I feel real sorry for quarterbacks and offensive lineman that have to line up against this duo for seasons to come.
