Writer and poet with a smile that will warm you to the bone; ladies and gentlemen, it’s Aja Monet.
At 26 years old, people are amazed at what Aja has already accomplished. The Brooklyn born native the youngest winner of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam Champion in 2007 and has performed on Broadway, at the Pre-inauguration ceremony for Barack Obama, and was a member of the Hollywood Slam team at Da Poetry Lounge in Los Angeles, California.
This woman is no joke. Her words are strung together by a passion that bleeds through the screen. She has videos posted with visuals to accompany her words but it’s not always needed. Close your eyes, lay on the ground, and listen while Monet invades your mind and trust me, it’s for the absolute better.
The words are said slowly and meant to be heard individually. These are the kind of videos that are best listened to when alone. How else can you soak in the beauty of such lines like:
“I know that laughter sometimes sounds like bubble wrap and it’s my favorite part of unpacking.”
“There is no image like the image of a man who thinks.”
Oh and remember to snap at the end of her performance, but I don’t know if your jolted mind will be able to pull it off. Good luck…
