Nitzia Scott (23) or better known as Nitty Scott, MC, has come a very long way from her home town in Orlando, Florida. She began rapping at 14 years old, while attending an art school, majoring in creative writing, then soon ventured to New York City at 17 to make a career out of her passion. She later graduated from a Secondary School for Journalism in Brooklyn, which she confessed she would of continued if not for her love of music. During her stay in New York, Scott founded the Boombox Family hip hop movement, whose initiative is to “preserve and progress hip hop culture”.
Nitty Scott, MC, now signed to Boombox Family Entertainment, was seen performing at the 2011 BET hip hop awards with other performers like Estelle, DJ Premier, and Lecrae. She was also on the Brooklyn Festival Hip Hop lineup and in 2012 performed at the Royal Arena Festival in Switzerland, with Ice Cube and Mos Def.
2012 was a big year for Scott, as she released her first official EP, The Boombox Diaries, Vol. 1 August 28. It features guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar, The Kid Daytona, Action Bronson and more. The leading single “Auntie Maria’s Crib” , generated many positive reviews, and even earned the Editor’s Pick at DJ Booth.
June 16, 2013 Nitty Scott, MC, released the video to her single “Flower Child” (featuring Kendrick Lamar), on MTV Jams. The shoot was funded entirely through the support of her fans and contributors to her Kickstarter Campaign.
What else can we expect from Nitty Scott, MC? The Brooklyn emcee is just wrapping up her tour, The Art of Chill, and is working on the release of her video U.F.O. But until then, feel free to download some of the diverse work of Nitty Scott, MC here, to hold you over.
And remember, we said she’s next.
