After clarifying the term “gangster”, The Ex-Harold Ickies Project residents spoke on Chicago’s corruption and why they are not proud to be the “Murder Capital”.
“Chicago is 99.9% Gangster. That just is what it is. … We are the murder capital and that is not nothing that I am proud of. We gotta tell that story. We aint advocating, but we are telling our story so people know what Chicago is about.”
The Chicago tandem discuss the balance of quality vs. quantity and how they have grown to become very tasteful about how they create their music.
“We make it tasteful. We don’t just (be like) ‘we gonna’ shoot em’. We gonna kill em’.’ … We telling our story man, and a lot of times when you tell a story with a movement along with it people tend to gravitate to it.”
“Now we understand the nature of the game as far as career moves. We gotta have quantity as well. We are trying to incorporate them both. We started out with just quality, quality of production, quality of .. we took our time and made sure it was well crafted.”
