We got a chance to catch up with Brookyn’s young spitters Joey BADA$$ and CJ Fly last week after their show at the Betsy Head Park. We also got to meet and chop it up with the rest of the Pro Era team. Joey and CJ elaborate on the story behind “Hardknock” and explain why after graduating High School, College may just not be quite the  option.

.

While Introduce the Pro Era Team CJ Fly & Joey Bada$$ explain how the group was developed in High School, “(Pro Era) consists of Three Managers, One singer. Tina is the only girl in the group, that’s why she is so ILL and 10 Rappers and designers.”  CJ Fly explained.

.

Joey then added,“We all went to the same school. Edward R. Murrow. It was like four of us at first. … we just started expanding, we started shifting, we started defending, and now we are here. Spreading the message. One love.”

 .

Later in the interview they breakdown the story behind “Hardknock” and how the idea for the song came about. “We had similar stories. At the time we both had homies that was locked up and shit. We was just talking about our homies that was pinned up. We found a beat, played it. was like ‘Let’s make a song about this shit.’”

.

After he explained that he was ahead of his years, Joey spokee about finishing High School and why College is not an option “School is school. I mean who like school?… I’m just at that point in my life where i’m just trying get passed this stage to move on to the next level. … College is not an option. I mean, I look at it like this. College is for developing a career. If I already have mine before I go what’s the point?”
